Excerpt from The I2C FAQ by Vincent Himpe.

The I2C FAQ found its origins in the early days of the publicly available internet, dating back to 1992. The FAQ was written out of frustration with the little available information available then. It was first published the usenet newsgroup comp.sci.electronics and evolved over the years.

Many a reference can still be found to those old days either under my name, my first internet handle ping0751, or under I2C FAQ. Many sites still mirror the original website and or FAQ.
